Freedom of Information Act
A term to know.
Signed into law by President Lyndon B. Johnson on July 5, 1966 (and amended subsequently in 1996, 2002, and 2007), this act enables citizens to obtain disclosure (sometimes only in part) of previously unreleased information and documents of the U.S. Government.
