A Latin term meaning "per head." In an estate planning context, it refers to an equal distribution to each living person in a defined group; for example, a sum divided by the number of people in the group being distributed, one equal share to each member of the group. It is distinguished from a distribution per stirpes, where each branch of family members inherits an equal share, regardless of the number of people in the branch.
