The right to use the real property of another. For example, an easement may be the right to cross a piece of property, as with a grant in a deed to the gas and electric company to cross property to make repairs and improvements. Historically, there were four types of easements: right-of-ways (easements of way), support (easements of support relating to excavations), light and air, and rights on artificial waterways.
